I love teaching! When you’re in a room of curious and committed young people, trying to make sense of the world, it’s exhilarating. I’m one of those people who says “Thank God it’s Monday,” because I get to converse with students who want to know how the world works so that they can do good work in the world.
I tend to be an unconventional teacher because I’ve been blessed with students who love intellectual play, and surrounded by colleagues who believe in active learning, especially in settings like St. Olaf’s Paracollege, which encouraged faculty to make learning make sense for students, not just for professional practitioners of academic disciplines.
The class that inspired The Nature of College is Campus Ecology, and you can find out more about it here.
